Farmers Branch Fire Department Hosts Fired Up for Literature

The Farmers Branch Fire Department sponsored a program, Fired Up for Literature, for 4th grade students in the elementary schools located in Farmers Branch. Fourth grade students recorded the number of minutes they read and after several weeks the reading logs were returned to school. The student reading the most number of minutes was rewarded with a special “fired up” T-shirt, backpack, and a ride to school on a fire truck. Nancy Lopez, the winner at Blair Elementary (961 minutes read), arrived at school in a fire truck along with the firemen from the new station 1. All of the students in fourth grade met her with signs and cheering as the fire truck pulled up.
