Three RLT Lions Sign With Colleges to Play Football


R. L. Turner High School football players Francisco Estrada, David Portillo and Saul Aguirre signed with their respective colleges on Mar. 20, 2013. They received college scholarships for their athletic and academic accomplishments.

Aguirre and Estrada will play football for Kentucky Wesleyan University.

Portillo will be playing for Northwestern College in Iowa.

Turner Theater Shines on Stage and in UIL Academics

The R. L. Turner Theater Department competed in the District UIL Academic contest resulting in all six students advancing to the final round.   A

NSHS Debate Students Among the Best in the State


Congratulations to Sam Winstel and Sarah Grace Withers of the Newman Smith Debate Program. At the Texas Forensic Association State Championship Tournament the students placed 3rd in the state out of 128 teams qualified for the tournament. Sam and Sarah were 5-1 in preliminary rounds and advanced to the 4th elimination round to the final four losing on a 2-1 decision.

The state tournament was held at South Grand Prairie High School March 7-9

Two C-FB ISD Soccer Teams Victorious

The Newman Smith boys and Creekview girls both won their bi-district advancing them to the area round of the UIL state soccer play-offs.

Creekview girls defeated Sulphur Springs 5-0 last night and they will play McKinney North at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, at The Colony High School’s stadium. Ticket prices will be $5 for adults and $3 for students and passes accepted include 10-4A, 13-4A, THSCA, TGCA, and TASCO. Creekview will be the visiting team for tomorrow night’s game.

Newman Smith boys defeated Princeton 2-0 last night and they will play Frisco Wakeland at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, at Goldsmith Stadium in Lewisville. Their ticket prices will also be $5 for adults and $3 for students and passes accepted include 10-4A, 9-4A, THSCA, and TGCA.

Show Your Support for Lady Lions Soccer

The Lady Lions Soccer Team is heading to the bi-district playoffs finishing up their regular season in grand fashion. The JV won 3-1 and Claudia Rojas scored twice to beat Trinity 2-1 for the varsity.

The varsity ended up with a 15-6-1 record and a goal difference of +37.

McWhorter Elementary Two-Way Dual Language Meeting

There will be a Two-Way dual Language meeting for parents of students entering Kindergarten at McWhorter Elementary next year.  Dr. Hinojosa will provide parents information regarding the program, the benefits, qualifications, etc.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 21 at 6pm in the McWhorter Elementary Library.

Creekview Mock Trial Team Earn State Championship Title

The Creekview High School Mock Trial team are 2012-2013 State Championship title holders after winning the State Mock Trial Competition this month. The team will represent C-FB ISD and Creekview High School at the national competition in May.

RLT Student Takes 1st Place at Regional Science and Engineering Fair

R. L. Turner High School student, Michelle Park took First Prize and Grand Prize Runner-Up at the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair with her project, “Little Needles! The Fabrication of Gold Biocompatible Microneedles with Dissolvable Nano-scale Tips for the Treatment and Diagnosis of Malignant Cells.” Park also won Best Engineering Project from the Society of American Military Engineers and Outstanding Project with Air Force Applicability from the United States Air Force. Park will now compete at the State and International Science Fair competitions.

Additionally, Newman Smith High School students Anna Halepaska, Santiago Mazuera, Taelor Opplinger and Lauren Smith all received Honorable Mention for their science fair projects at the event. Halepaska, Mazuera and Smith worked as a team on a project titled SPAAM – Simple Plastic Autonomous Aerial Machine.” Opplinger had an individual project titled “Over-Expression of Pkd1 in Renal Epithelial Cells Disrupts Tubulogenessis.”

Female Powerlifter Finishes Strong at State Meet


Creekview powerlifter, Courtney Duncan, placed 6th place at the Powerlifting State tournament in Corpus Christi.  Her totals were as follows: bench 120, squat 340, dead lift 355.  Her total was a season best 815.  


Creekview Students Traveled to Learn

Over Spring Break, five Creekview student representatives and teacher Suzanne Reese traveled to the National Service Learning Convention in Denver, Colorado, where they were recognized along with nine other schools in the United States, as a National Leader School. 

The students participating in this opportunity are from the Creekview Project Ignition Team; Michael Caballero, Jeremy Dowell, Edwin Aguilar, Gabby Frost and Sabrina Martinez.

The C-FB ISD After The Bell  Summer Enrollment Forms are available NOW in campus offices.

  • 5-year-olds through completing 5th grade students enrolled in C-FB ISD

Another State Championship Title for a C-FB Student

Michael Ferguson, a junior at Creekview High School, became the 2012-2013 Texas Forensic Association Humorous Interpretation State Champion by competing against the 134 students in this event at the state meet on March 9th.

Creekview placed 5th out of the 209 schools qualifying and competing at this year’s state tournament.

The Creekview Forensic Team is directed by Robert Shepard.

McWhorter Elementary Chosen as Only U.S. School to Participate inLandmark Skype Call to Mount Everest

On Mar. 28, McWhorter Elementary will participate in a Skype call to Mount Everest. In a promotion by Skype in the Classroom, explorer Mark Wood will be leading an expedition through the Nepalese side of the Himalayas in an attempt to summit Mount Everest. Wood selected one school from ten countries, from over 650 that applied for the opportunity. McWhorter is the only school from the United States that was selected to take part in this call, along with students from schools in Japan, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Thailand, Australia, Switzerland and Finland.

C-FB ISD 3rd-5th Graders Turn Art into Greeting Cards


Thanks to a generous $3,000 Pathcare Medical sponsorship by President Jeff Vitt, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Educational Foundation and 3rd-5th grade students are creating and marketing a full line of all-occasion greeting cards called “C-FB Kids Cards.”
Showcasing highly imaginative and decorative artwork these highly creative and deluxe size (5 1/2”x7 1/2”) greeting cards are available for consumer and business orders atwww.cfbkidscards.com.
The goal of C-FB Kids Cards is to showcase the artistic talents of C-FB ISD elementary-age students, while generating sustainable and scalable revenues from year-round all-occasion greeting card sales to fund student scholarships, teacher grants and more.
Students whose cover art was used to create Kids Cards were honored at the district’s Art Festival at Baylor Hospital-Carrollton on March 7.

Trojan Golfer Wins Regional Preview Tournament

Newman Smith High School Trojan golfer Eji Kwon participated in the regional preview golf tournament hosted by Frisco Centennial at Texas Star in Euless. Kwon won the tournament, shooting a round of 76.

Several C-FB ISD schools participated in the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) video contest entitled “Texas Public Schools Rock!” Videos from Furneaux Elementary, Rainwater Elementary, Polk Middle School, and R. L. Turner High School are featured on TASB’s website.

CHS Senior Awarded Presitgious AP Arts and Music Theory Scholarship

Creekview High School senior, Samantha Guu, has been selected as a 2013 recipient of the prestigious Excellence in AP Arts and Music Theory Award Scholarship of Communities Foundation of Texas. This $20,000 scholarship is highly competitive and is only available to senior AP Art or Music Theory students from the top-performing schools in the state in regard to academic and fine arts achievement. Samantha’s accomplishment is a great representation of high achievement at Creekview High School and C-FB ISD.

International Baccalaureate Art Show

The International Baccalaureate students at Ranchview High School invite the community to their art show on March 28, 2013 at 6pm in the Ranchview High School Library.  There will be sculptures, drawings and paintings on exhibit as well as an opportunity to meet the artists.  

This is a free event open to the public.

NSHS French Students Place Well at Regional Competition

Five Newman Smith High School French students scored wins at the Regional Fete competition recently in Plano.
