Trojans Take First Place at Solar-Powered Airplane Competition

On May 25, students from Newman Smith High School built and flew a solar-powered, radio-controlled model airplane at a competition at Texas A&M University. The competition was sponsored by the TAMU Society of Flight Test Engineers. The students’ entry had solar cells inside the wing, making for uninterrupted airflow. This tactic earned the Trojan flight crew First Place for Originality. The team also took Second Place for endurance.
