NSHS Student Leadership Program Recognized

The Texas Association of Student Councils has recognized the NSHS Student Leadership Program for outstanding achievement in 2012-13.

The TASC, sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, recently announced that NSHS has won the following awards:

· Outstanding Student Council Award for 2012-13
· The DASH (Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health) Award
· Energy and Environment Award
· Pride and Patriotism Award
· Community Service
· Sweepstakes Award

The TASC outstanding school recognition program is designed to set a standard of excellence for Texas student councils as outlined in criteria published in state report forms. The report forms are reviewed annually by the TASC Board of Directors in order to ensure that the recognition program is rigorous and relevant.

This is an outstanding accomplishment for Newman Smith students. Fewer than 20 percent of TASC member schools are recognized in one or more areas.

The Newman Smith Student Leadership curriculum is taught by Sabrina Pace.
