NSHS Teacher Honored as a Simmons Scholar

Congratulations to Newman Smith English/Language Arts Teacher, Shelley Allen, for being selected as the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development Scholar for 2013.

The prestigious award is given to one Master of Education and one undergraduate student at Southern Methodist University annually. The Simmons Scholars program is awarded to an outstanding Masters candidate who exemplifies academics, service, ethics and leadership. Allen will soon complete post graduate studies at SMU via its Master of Education Program.

Winners of the award must show promise as a future leader in the field of education and seek to advance to the highest level of scholarship by practicing the framework of the Simmons School. The award is based on GPA and votes from the SMU faculty.

The award is named after Annette Caldwell Simmons, a former teacher and benefactor to the School of Education and Human Development at SMU.
