Trojan Swimmers Break School Records

Chalk up another school record-breaking swim for JJ Echaniz. The senior captain held off a charging Adrien Lewis in the final length to lower his own mark in the 500 Free as Newman Smith played host to Bishop Lynch this week. The Trojan boys earned a convincing victory (100-49) to establish a winning record of 4 wins and 3 losses. In other events, Echaniz won the 100 Breast, while Lewis took the 200 IM. The girls’ team lost to a strong Bishop Lynch squad (116-58), but Naomi Mizuno and Gerri Bergman won the 100 Breast and 100 Back respectively, while Bryn Smernoff managed a pair of second place finishes. Also notable was the performance of sophomore Jacki Brewer, who dropped time in two events to qualify for next week’s Frisco Invitational. For her efforts, Brewer was named the team’s fifth “Athlete of the Week”.
