Broncos Read Night at Las Colinas Barnes & Noble

On Oct. 20, the Las Colinas Barnes and Noble welcomed Barbara Bush Middle School for their first "Bronco Night." Approximately 240 students and 500 friends and family members participated in this night of family literacy.

The Language Arts team at Barbara Bush worked  with Barnes and Noble to create an event where families could come and talk about books. The teachers read aloud, gave book recommendations, and encouraged families to read together. Students who attended the event were automatically entered in a raffle of Barnes and Noble gift cards and spent much of the evening looking through books. The Barbara Bush choir, band, and orchestra entertained parents and other customers. Younger children in attendance were treated to storytelling and even a performance by the eighth grade theater production class.

A member of the Barnes and Noble team commented, "This is the largest turn out for an event since the release of the last Harry Potter book." A portion of the night's sales will go back to Barbara Bush in the form of books for classroom libraries.

Mr. Warnock, Principal at Barbara Bush Middle School, was also pleased with the event. "We are very grateful to Barnes and Noble for hosting the event, and look forward to making it an annual tradition here at Barbara Bush!"
