On Feb. 25, the Individual Speaking event portion of the of the National Qualifying Tournament was held at Creekview High School. Newman Smith Debate student Tanya Rajan qualified for the for the National Championship Tournament by being ranked first in all six rounds of the tournament. This is Tanya’s second year to qualify for Nationals in Extemporaneous Speaking.
This is the 13th time in 15 years that Newman Smith Debate has qualified for the National Championship Tournament. The National Tournament will be in Indianapolis in June.
The team also had three students place as alternates:
- Diana Pop
- Michael Schrag
- Sarah Grace Withers
The Debate and Student Congress portion of the qualifying process will be held in April.
NSHS Debate is coached by Robert Martin and Christopher Michael Agee.
