Congratulations to the three divers at the 2012 State High School Diving Championships!
It was quite the season finale for Connor Shackelford at the State Diving Championship in Austin over the weekend, as the junior diver cracked the top-8 in the field of 16. Shackelford performed strong in his first eight dives in the preliminaries, earning an 8th place standing heading into the three-dive final. Connor, with a back one and a half twist, inward double and a reverse double, jumped past three other divers to finish in fifth place overall with a score of 363. This is the highest finish from any Newman Smith swimmer or diver in the past six years. Connor’s score also qualifies him for “All-American” status for the third straight meet, and he also makes the “All-State 1st Team”.
