Creekview Wins International Grant for Teen Driving Summit

Carrollton Mayor Marchant came to visit the Creekview Leadership class to hear a presentation about the Project Ignition Grant. The Creekview Leaders applied for and received a $2,000 grant provided by the National Youth Leadership Council and State Farm Insurance to help promote teen driving safety. There were 25 school selected from the United States and Canada for this grant. Creekview was the only high school in Texas that was chosen.

The Creekview Project Ignition team is currently planning a Teen Driving Summit to be held at Creekview on Sat., Mar. 3. The Creekview Project Ignition Team will be inviting in representatives from every high school in Carrollton, both public and private, as well as Ranchview High School to attend the Summit. The free three-hour Summit will include informative and interactive sessions on the consequences of not wearing seatbelts, driving under the influence, the dangers of night driving, speeding and the cause of the latest significant surge in teen accidents-distractions. Each school team will be asked to come up with an action plan of how they can help spread the message of the importance of teen driving safety to their schools. The day will end with pizza, music and time to share ideas with kids from other schools.

The team asked Mayor Marchant to proclaim March as Teen Driving Safety Month in Carrollton.  The proclamation will be read at the Feb. 21 City Council Meeting. Creekview is very appreciative to the City of Carrollton, the National Youth Leadership Council and State Farm Insurance for providing the means to help achieve the objective of reaching out to all of the teenagers in Carrollton in order to save lives.
