Senior Adrien Lewis and Freshman Taylor Mason were the Newman Smith’s top performers at the C-FB New Year’s Classic over the weekend. More than 600 athletes from 37 teams competed at one of the largest competitions of the season.
Lewis was third in the 100 Breast, while Mason took the bronze in the 500 Free and 7th place in the 100 Breast. Bryn Smernoff also cracked the top 8 in the 200 Free. Connor Shackelford was fourth in diving.
The Trojan girls ended up in 6th place overall, while the boys were 9th. Also of note, Mihai Stanciu has produced a string of impressive swims in the 100 Fly this season, including another 3-second drop at the NYC. For his improvement, Stanciu was named the team’s ninth “Athlete of the Week!”
