49 Trojans Qualify for State DECA Competition

Congratulations to the Newman Smith DECA program.

The Newman Smith High School DECA club has qualified 49 students for state competition on February 28, in Corpus Christi, Texas. At district level competition recently in Frisco, Newman Smith students competed extremely well winning 49 individual events. The students competed in events that included Business Law/Ethics, Financial Services, Travel/Tourism, Hospitality, and Entrepreneurship/Marketing. For over twenty consecutive years Newman Smith High School has qualified thirty or more students for State DECA competition.

DECA is an association of marketing students. Students who are enrolled in marketing, business management or entrepreneurship courses are eligible to join DECA. DECA allows students to participate in competition at the District, State and National Level. Students who choose to compete learn not only about marketing, finance and business, but they also learn leadership skills, professional dress, presentation skills, self-confidence and time management. DECA strives to prepare students to be academically prepared for both college and careers.
