Throughout the fall, choral students from Newman Smith High School have
participated in a series of rigorous solo auditions sponsored by the
Texas Music Educators’ Association. Nine NSHS singers placed into one of
the TMEA Region 24 All-Region Choirs while competing against other
students from C-FB ISD, Lewisville ISD, Frisco ISD,
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, and Carroll ISD. The students performed in a
gala concert Nov. 2-3 under the direction of guest choral conductors Dr.
Rick Bjella from Texas Tech University and Ms. Denise Eaton from Sam
Houston State University. Additionally, five students from the NSHS A
Cappella Choir were selected to advance to the Pre-Area round of
auditions on Nov. 8, with senior Clay Hensley advancing to the state
audition on Jan. 12, 2013.
