It's Academy Tour Time!

The Academies and High School Programs will be presenting overviews and address application requirements to parents and 8th grade students at the following parent meetings, open houses, and student tours. Please attend all of these for the programs of your choice during the times listed below.

*Parents will need to drop students off at the appropriate campus. They will be taken back to their middle schools by a C-FB bus. Permission slips will be needed and can be picked up from their counselor or by clicking here to print yourself.

Good News for Texas Public Education


Preliminary data released by the U.S. Department of Education shows Texas has the third-highest high school graduation rate in the country and the highest percentages of Asian and white students who graduate.

Lady Trojans Basketball Team Demonstrates Character and Service


Over the Thanksgiving Break, the Newman Smith Lady Trojan basketball teams donated their time to help Joe’s Pizza with their annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner. Every year Joe’s Pizza feeds over 2000 Carrollton residents a Thanksgiving dinner, free of charge, who wouldn’t otherwise be able to enjoy a holiday meal. The Lady Trojans helped prepare food, sort and stack canned goods, and make and bake cornbread. The Lady Trojans also collected over 250 canned food items to donate to Joe’s to make these meals possible.

Turner Student Receives Full Ride Scholarship

R. L. Turner High School student, David Saenz, has been accepted to Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and was awarded the National Navy ROTC scholarship worth $180,000.

RLT AVID Students Attend Leadership Training Event


The Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, which is comprised of 22 R. L. Turner AVID students, were invited to attend a Disney Leadership Training Event at the Doubletree Hotel. The training was made possible  by Tom & Mechelle Bryson and the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce.

Field Middle School Hosts Coffee With the Principal

Vivian Field Middle School hosted a coffee at their campus library so parents could learn more about the great things students are doing and learning. The campus then created a newsletter to cover topics discussed for those who could not attend (see below)

NSHS Graduate Wins “Dancing With the Stars: All Stars”

Newman Smith High School graduate, Melissa Rycroft, and her dance partner Tony Dovolani, were named the champions of the Nov. 27 broadcast of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars: All Stars reality show.

C-FB Swimmers Compete at District Quad Meet

Ranchview High School girls’swimming and diving team won its first dual of the season, beating Turner 110-69 in the annual C-FB Quad Meet. Co-Captain Sarah Rovi was the top performer for the Wolves, winning the 500 Free and 100 Back-stroke.  The girls lost their other two matches with Newman Smith 208-110 and Creekview 131-110.  Creekview won the overall boys title, beating Ranchview 255-103.  Swimmer Sinjin Venegas won the 100 and 200 meter Free-style to lead the boys’ team performances.  Eric Arumugam, who was 3rd in the 200 IM and 4th in the 500 Free-style, was named the team’s second “Athlete of the Week” for his event contributions.

The VIP (Very Important Profession of Teaching) program is the district’s way of saying “Thank You!” to our professional staff for being innovative leaders in learning, who diligently work to meet the needs of all our students. Honorees are recognized at School Board Meetings for their efforts in making our schools a great place for quality learning to occur. VIPs have been honored through the program for over 25 years. Principals at each campus choose VIP honorees or ask the staff at their campus to choose an honoree.

CHS Violinist Places 6th in State of Texas

Creekview High School violinist, Samantha Guu auditioned against 1000 other violinists across the state to compete for a spot in the Texas Music Educators Association’s All-State Orchestra. Guu has placed 6th in the state. Students will have a re-seating audition at the TMEA Convention in San Antonio, where Guu and her competitors will vy for a higher rank.

Blanton Elementary Helps Hungry Families for the Holidays

On Nov. 6, students and staff at Blanton Elementary concluded their canned food drive to benefit the North Texas Food Bank. The campus collected over 1700 cans and boxes of food.

Trojan Swimmers Make Strides at Competitions

 On Nov. 15, Newman Smith High School freshman, Taylor Mason, helped lead the girls’s swim team to home victories over Grapevine Faith 103-44, North Hills 103-62 and Trinity Christian Academy 103-39 by winning the 100 Breast-stroke and earning second in the 50 Free-style. Bryn Smernoff also pitched in with two third place finishes in the 100 Back-stroke and 200 Free-style. Connor Shackelford was the top performer for the boys’ team, winning the diving event and keeping his undefeated streak in tact at three meets. The Trojan boys picked up victories over Grapevine Faith 74-40 and North Hills 74-58.  Geoff Bergman had a noteable performance in the 100 Fly that qualified him for another event at this week’s Frisco Invitational. For his improvement and consistency in practices, Bergman was named the team’s fourth “Athlete of the Week.”

Trojan Percussion Ensemble Takes 3rd at Lone Star Classic

 
On Nov. 10, Newman Smith High School Percussion performated at the Lone Star Classic held at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, TX, competing against 22 other percussion ensembles in their division. Featuring the front ensemble and battery, the Trojans performed their 2012 show, “Les Miserables” at the event, taking 3rd place.

McCoy Elementary Wins the District Pluck A Plastic Bag Challenge

Nov. 7-14, the District Improvement Council set up a challenge to students and staff, to “Pluck A Plastic Bag from the Landfill Challenge” – the goal was to pluck 50,000 bags to be properly recycled. With 12 campuses participating, students and staff were just shy of the goal, successfully preventing 48,798 bags from going into the landfill. Plastic bags can take 1000 years to decay in the landfill, and wild animals are sometimes harmed by getting caught in the bags or consuming them.

Turner Lions Tennis Players Receive Honors at All-District Competition

On Nov. 7, the R. L. Turner High School Tennis Team completed the season with the all-district competition. Player Lauren Kuhn was named “Girls’ #1 Singles Honorable Mention,” and mixed doubles players Troy Bonneau and Lauren Kuhn were named “Mixed Doubles #2 All District.”

RLT Cellist Places 15th in State of Texas

R. L. Turner Orchestra member, Marco De La Cruz, auditioned for the Texas All-State Orchestra in early November. Results were released on Nov. 13,  placing De La Cruz 15th in the state on cello. De La Cruz will go on to participate in the All-State Orchestra clinic and concert in San Antonio, TX in February 2013.

Thanksgiving Holiday

This is a time of year when we are reminded how thankful we are for the students, families and staff at C-FB ISD.

In observance of Thanksgiving, C-FB ISD campuses will be closed Monday, November 19 through Friday, November 23. Classes will resume on Monday, November 26.

Baseball Team Cleans Up Carrollton



The Newman Smith Baseball Team participated in a community service project to help clean up the City of Carrollton. 

The team is coached by Ivan Cedillo.
