Vivian Field Theater students
showcase their playwriting talents in their original, student written work: Revolution Evolution: A Middle School
Musical. The Field Theater students created an original script about middle
school life using songs by The Beatles to support the action of the play.
Under the direction of Theater Director Jenae Glanton,
students learned playwriting techniques. “The students experienced and learned
what it is like to be a playwright. We started with overall story ideas, plot
structure and characters. Laura Garcia, guest artist/director and screenwriter,
helped us along the way. She really provided the students with some great ideas
on pacing and scene structure. There were days where we all experienced
‘writer’s block.’ On those days, we asked the student’s to get up on their feet
and improvise dialogue. The students really enjoyed coming up with school
scenarios and connecting them with Beatles songs.”
The musical includes a student chorus made up of 25 Vivian
Field Choir students under the Music Direction of Karen Lloyd and Sarah Baez. The
show consists of a cast, crew, and chorus made up of 50 students from the Vivian
Field Choir and Theater Departments.
