METSA Students Place 2nd at Racing Challenge

The R. L. Turner METSA team RC Lions for an amazing performance at this year’s NASCAR Student Racing Challenge as they placed 2^nd overall for the day of competitions. The competition was held at Lowe’s Motor Speedway zMAX Dragway in Charlotte, NC. Competitions for the day included:

·        Aerodynamics Design

·        RoboCar RaCeCar

·        Alternative Energy

·        Superspeedway Endurance Race

·        Creative Engineering

·        Team Presentations

·        Graphic Design

·        Elevator Pitch

While most teams reaching the national platform meet on a daily basis to work on projects and submit critical project points, our RC Lions are limited to short once-a-week afternoons and occasional half day Saturday meetings. This component to the competition school year makes winning runner-up just that more rewarding. Our Lions also placed 1^st in Creative Engineering and 2^nd in Team Presentations. They also collected over $700 in cash winnings and a $200 Red Cat Volcano Exp Pro Car. Their pit crew projects integrated mechanical  & electrical engineering while fabrication of an RC Car body added elements in aerodynamics, design and Solid Works 3D CAD modeling.
