Perry Middle School NJHS Surpasses Food Drive Goal
Friday, November 30th, marked the end of the Metrocrest Food Drive conducted by Perry Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society. During the three-week drive, which began November 6th, NJHS collected 3,047 food items from the faculty and staff of Perry as well as from the staff of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch office of Dallas County Schools. Alex Fantine, NJHS President, was somewhat surprised by the large number collected.
“When Mrs. Hollon {NJHS sponsor} told us that around 2,000 cans and boxes of food were collected during the last food drive, the other officers and I set a pretty lofty goal of 3,000.”
“We really didn’t think we would reach {that goal},” chimed in Julien Tagnon, NJHS Treasurer. “But I’m glad we did!”
The winning classes were determined by using a formula that calculated food items collected per student in each fourth period class. First place went to Mrs. Cindy Stubbs’ class, with an unprecedented 21 items per student. Second place winners were Mrs. Laura DeCutler’s class, with 17 items per student, and rounding third place was Mrs. Cynthia Gillis’ class, with 15 items per student.
In addition to Alex and Julien, NJHS officers Sarah Hong (Vice President), Sarah Freeman (Secretary), and Alaina Rodriguez (Historian) wish to send a special thanks to Mrs. Anne Claire Tagnon, Mrs. Laurie Fantine, and Brandon Fantine for their help in making this project a huge success!
