On Feb. 18, the TOP NOTCH Step Team from Barbara Bush Middle School, competed at Disney Step Classic at Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando, Florida. TOP NOTCH is a performance group that draws its inspiration from Historically African American Greek Letter organizations, the rhythmic beats of the African heritage merged with many other dance forms.
The team took 2nd place and a Superior Performance Award.

Bush Step Team Takes 2nd Place at Disney Competition
Bush Karate Students Advance to City Tournament
On Feb. 18, the Kick Start Karate students at Barbara Bush Middle School competed in a tournament at Perry Middle School that consisted of three events; Kata, Sparring, and Team Kata. Bush had 36 competitors win twenty-six 1st place medals, seven 2nd place medals and thirteen 3rd place medals. These students now qualify to compete in the City Tournament in March.
Bush Student Takes Top 10 at County Spelling Bee
On Feb. 9, Bush Middle School student Malry Lee Tardd competed in the Dallas County Spelling Bee. Taard made it through five rounds, finishing in the top 10.
Trojan Debater Places at Local Tournament
On Feb. 11, Newman Smith debate student Anja Kecalovic competed in the Jesuit College Prep High School Debate Tournament. Kecalovic took 3rd place in Lincoln Douglas Debate at the event.
This is the 2nd time this semester that Kecalovic has placed in Lincoln Douglas at a tournament. She won the Coppell tournament in January.
Kecalovic is from Montenegro and is spending the year studying at Newman Smith High School.

Three C-FB Destination Imagination Teams Advance to Affiliate Tournament
On Feb. 25, 21 Destination Imagination teams from C-FB compeated in the TVNC Regional Destination Imagination Touranment held at R. L. Turner High School. Approximatly 150 teams from across Noth Texas flexed their creativity at the tournament. The following teams and team members will represent C-FB ISD in Corpus Christi, TX on April 13-14 at the TX Affiliate Tournament:
- Creekview HS – Extreme Challenge: Hannah Revelle, Rachel Steele, Thomas Steele, Keely Pike and Trace Tschida.
- Kent Elementary – The World Canvas: Riley Carlin, Allison Nors, Madison O’Malley, Bianka Perez, Shaista Tejani and Hannah Wallace.
- La Villita – Hold It!: Mihir Asnani, Neha Dhanekula, Richa Nag, Sakshi Sanjeev, Sophia Mansava and Swathi Bammidipati.
Ranchview Softball Wins First Place
The Ranchview Lady Wolves Softball Team finished first in the Silver Bracket of the Denton High School Tournament this past weekend.
Creekview Speech Named State Champions
The Creekview Mustang Speech Team was named State Champion and Winner of Sweepstakes at Texas Forensics Association (TFA) State Tournament. Of the 205 schools in competition at the meet, Creekview placed first overall in sweepstakes. Creekview had 16 quarterfinalists, 13 semifinalists, and nine placing state finalists. Placing finalists were as follows:

Newman Smith DECA Students Advance to International Competition
Congratulations to the Newman Smith DECA Program for earning 13 First Place Winners and 12 Alternates at State competition this past weekend. The First Place Winners will advance to International Competition in Salt Lake City later this spring.

Troyanns Win Grand Champion Title
The Newman Smith Troyanns attended the Showtime International Competition at Poteet High School on Sat., Feb. 28. The Officers received a Sweepstakes Award. The Team received a Sweepstakes/Judges Award for 90 or above from every judge on all three performances. The Troyanns were Best in Small Category Pom, Military and Prop. Based on their total scores, they were names Grand Champions for the Small Team Division.
