C-FB ISD PTAs Join Rally for Texas Public Education

C-FB ISD Council PTA will take a bus to Austin for the Texas PTA Rally for Public Education on Thursday February 21, 2013. Seats are limited! PTA members must sign up by February 11 to ensure a spot on the bus.

After that date, any remaining seats will be offered to other area PTA members who are interested in joining us.

What will they do? The C-FB ISD Rally Team will participate in Texas PTA’s Rally at 9am. They will then organize into ‘teams’ to meet with the state legislators who represent the voters in the six cities served by C-FB ISD.

Texas PTA’s top five legislative objectives are:

1. Public School Funding – pursue an adequate and equitable solution for school funding while maintaining accountability and responsibility for educating the whole child. PTA has also advocated specifically for funding for early childhood education, school and community library programs;

2. Oppose Vouchers, because the funds they divert from public schools go to entities that do not have the same accountability and education requirements as the public schools;

3. Training in school finance for legislators – organize a grassroots campaign to encourage that legislators better understand the public school funding process;

4. Pursue changes to STAAR and End of Course Testing to reduce the emphasis on ‘high stakes’ tests and

5. Healthy Lifestyles –support programs that promote movement, activities, healthier food choices and school recess programs and promote school, family and community participation .

PTA members can email legislative@cfbpta.org for more information.
