Four of our C-FB soccer teams are advancing to play-offs. In the boys' division, Creekview won the district championship and Turner finished second. In the girls’ division, Creekview finished in second placed and Turner took fourth place. All of these teams will play in the bi-district round of the UIL state soccer play-offs this Friday or Saturday.

Trojan Jazz Ensembles Finish at Top at UTA Festival
On Mar. 2, the Newman Smith High School Jazz Ensembles I and II participated in the UTA Jazz Festival in Arlington, TX. Jazz Ensemble I finished in first place in the 5A varsity category, and won the sweepstakes award for Best Band at the competition. Jazz Ensemble II finished in second place in the 5A non-varsity category. Jazz Ensemble I was invited to perform for the 2013 Festival Night Concert and perform as an opening act for the University of Texas at Arlington jazz bands.
Creekview High School Wins National Excellence Award
For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community, Creekview High School has been awarded a 2012 National Gold Council of Excellence Award by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). Only 163 high school councils nationwide received this honor.
CHS Teacher Inducted to State Hall of Fame
On Mar. 3, Creekview High School teacher Robert Shepard became the 21st Speech and Debate coach inducted into the Texas Forensic Association Hall of Fame. Shepard has served students in several capacities, including administrator, teacher and coach. Shepard, immediate past president of the Texas Forensic Association (TFA), began teaching high school debate, speech and theatre in 1992. He has taught at five different high schools and has coached various state champions in various categories, including the 2012 TFA State Championship team.

Creekview Boys' Basketball Players Named to All-District Team
The following Creekview Mustang Boys' basketball players were named to the 9-4A All-District Team:

Maxim Grand Opening - Future Technology Predictors
Maxim Integrated Products generously donated over $26,000 for science education in our middle schools. Students winning an essay contest on what technology would look like in the future presented their essays at the grand opening of Maxim's new Lone Star building in Farmers Branch. Thank you Maxim!
Creekview Student Named Distinguished Young Woman of Texas
On February 26, Marin Helppie-Schmieder of Creekview was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Texas and awarded $500 in cash scholarships during a statewide scholarship program for high school girls.
2011-2012 Blalack Alumni Scholarship Information
Blalack Alumni Scholarship will be awarded to two C-FB ISD graduating seniors who attended Blalack for a minimum of two years. An award of $500 will be given to each of this year’s deserving recipients. Please note that forms must be returned to the PTA 1st Vice President/Scholarship Selection Committee c/o Blalack Middle School and must be postmarked by Friday, April 20, 2012.

Foundation Teacher Scholarships Available; Applications Due April 5
The C-FB ISD Educational Foundation has three teacher scholarships available.

- Kathy Shelton and David Roberts Family Endowed Teacher Scholarship - In 2002, this scholarship was established to honor the memory of the David Roberts Family who was killed in a plane crash in 1992 by Leroy (a retired C-FB ISD teacher) and Erma Roberts, and Kathy Shelton, a C-FB ISD Content Mastery Teacher at Ted Polk Middle School. On December 24, 2002, Kathy Shelton died as a result of complications from surgery. At that time, the Roberts asked that the name be changed to honor their daughter Kathy along with David and his family.
The scholarship is for a teacher who is working toward a master’s degree or a doctorate in special education and/or working toward a special education certification through a university teacher certification program. For more details and the application. Application
- Suzy Hagar Endowed Fund for Gifted Education Teacher Scholarship - The scholarship was established in honor of Ms. Suzy Hagar, who retired from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD after serving as the district's Executive Director of Advanced Academic Services. The fund provides a teacher scholarship to support teachers’ continuing professional education which furthers their understanding about the social, emotional and academic needs of gifted children. - Patricia A. James Memorial “Love of Teaching” Recognition Grant - Pat James was an exemplary teacher in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD for 15 years teaching fifth grade and sixth grade LEAP classes. She retired from teaching in 2001 and succumbed to cancer later that year. Her family and more than 200 friends, parents, and students have established this endowed memorial grant in her name. This grant is awarded to a K-6 grade teacher who has taught for five years or less. This individual must exhibit outstanding dedication to children, creativity and innovation in teaching technique, classroom environment, and curriculum interpretation in the spirit of Pat James. The application deadline is Thurs., April 5 at 4:30 p.m. The applications must be turned in to the Foundation Office, which is located in the Community Learning Complex (CLC), 1820 Pearl Street, Carrollton, TX 75006.

ECHS Students Give Back
On Fri., March 23, 15 ECHS students gave back to the Brookhaven Community College campus by beautifying the flower beds outside the P building. The project was funded using the Meadow's Foundation grant.
