METSA Students have Social Skills
Before school ended in May 2012, our Math, Engineering, Technology and Science Academy (METSA) students participated in a cross-curricular project, Social Media for Social Good,
in partnership with University of Indiana and four other Indiana New
Tech Schools. Teams selected global issues from the United Nations’ list
of Developmental Goals, developing solutions (including social media)
to bring awareness to the issues and to help solve them.
The students first presented their solutions to their home room, with the top team from each room presenting their solutions to a panel of experts from non-profit, marketing and social media in a school-wide assembly.
Two teams, Food2Fly and Ken-Ya Help, were asked by the panel to combine their efforts into one project so that they could present their work to Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce. During their presentation, the team also shared information with the audience as to how they can use social media in their business.
METSA team has been asked to share their findings with the members of Hispanic Chamber on Aug. 22.

self-description of activities, accomplishments and potential for
success in rigorous college studies. Lynch plans to attend SMU in the
