School Board Approves New Start Times

For the 2011-2012 school year, the C-FB ISD schools will have new schedules. The schedules for the schools are as follows:

· Elementary School: 7:40 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.

· High School: 8:20 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.

· Middle School: 9:00 to 4:15 p.m.

Office hours for other district facilities such as the Administration Building, the Community Learning Complex (CLC), and the Technology Learning Center (TLC) will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

When considering making a change to schedules, it would be in the best interest of the district to listen before acting upon. This is a trend that continues to be an issue with CFB. Regardless of what sleep studies may state, consider all the factors, i.e. parents do work, students do work, many students pick-up younger siblings, many parents have special needs children that struggle daily; these are just a few factors that have a great impact on not just the students, but families. Are we supposed disrupt parent work schedules, appointments, etc. because CFB decided to change the time schedule. Many parents also set dr. appointments, counseling, etc. around the students school schedule, how does this benefit anyone? I guess more students will be coming in late or leaving early in order to accomodate their medical needs. Consider your audience, not one solution is going to fix everything, we know that. We know there is a budget crisis, that is not news to us, the whole country is in a crisis. Ask yourself, is it okay for the students and their families to pay the ultimate price?

That's a terrible idea. I'm pretty sure no high school student is for this plan.
