Newman Smith Boy's Track and Field Named District Champions

The NSHS Boys Track & Field team was named the 2012 District 9-4A District Champions.  This is the first Varsity District Team Championship for boys track & field in Newman Smith history.
The team scored 137 points, outscoring our closest opponent by 30 points. We have four individual champions and three relay champions. Student-athletes and relays who medaled are:

• Shawn Holmes – Long Jump District Champion (total of 4 gold medals), Regional Qualifier 
• Derrick Johnson – 100m District Champion (total of 3 gold medals), Regional Qualifier 
• Eric Williams – 400m District Champion (total of 3 gold medals), Regional Qualifier 
• Jeffrey Moore – 800m District Champion, 4th place 400m (total of 2 gold medals), Regional Qualifier 
• Jaquis Jones – Discus Runner-Up, Regional Qualifier 
• Demonte Gomez – Long Jump Runner-Up, 6th Place 200m (2 gold medals), Regional Qualifier 
• Ramon Lee – 3rd Place Discus, Regional Qualifier 
• Trei Banks – 3rd Place 110m Hurdles, 6th Place 300m Hurdles, Regional Qualifier 
• Lindell Collins – 5th Place 110m Hurdles 
• Danny Debes – 6th Place 3200m 
• 4x100m Relay – District Champion, Regional Qualifier (Demonte Gomez, Tre Gardner, Shawn Holmes, Derrick Johnson) 
• 4x200m Relay – District Champion, Regional Qualifier (Eric Williams, Ryan Huntley, Shawn Holmes, Derrick Johnson) 
• 4x400m Relay – District Champion, Regional Qualifier (Eric Williams, Ryan Huntley, Jeffrey Moore, Shawn Holmes) 

These young men are coached by Chuck Aston, James Busby, Brad Cross, Tom Duket, Patrick Holladay, Christina Hunter, & Phil Wester.
