Students from Turner, Smith, Ranchview and Creekview including Adrien Lewis, JJ Echaniz, Sinjin Venegas, Romario Vazquez, Bryan “Cheezboi” Amaya and Kazuomi Motoike were part of history made in Denton over the weekend as the consolidated C-FB boys’ water polo team won the Regional title in the first-ever water polo tournament the district has participated in. The squad beat Richardson 18-4 and Irving 7-5 to advance to the semifinal match. C-FB beat MacArthur 15-2 to move into the final against the veteran team from Flower Mound. In an “epic” game, C-FB came back to win in the final two minutes 12-10.
The girls’ team, with Gerri Bergman, Jacki Brewer, Brittany Kauffman, Maddy Worrell, Sarah Rovi, Lauren Naylor and Rebecca Segien competed extremely well too, beating Irving 15-14 to advance to the semifinal. They beat Mesquite 17-3 to earn a spot in the final against Flower Mound.. The girls kept in the game for three quarters. Flower Mound, which blew out every team, managed a 10-4 victory over C-FB, giving our girls the runner-up position. Still, a very impressive start for the district’s new water polo program.
