Ranchview's Tory Dell Signs with Vernon College 2012

On Feb. 1, RHS Senior, Tory Dell, signed with Vernon College to play softball.

 

Creekview Student Earns National Award

Creekview student Kevin King, under the guidance of coach Robert T. Shepard, has earned the degree of Premier Distinction-the National Forensic League's highest degree of student membership. A degree of Premier Distinction reflects sustained excellence in classroom activities, competition rounds, and service projects. 

Students may earn points in six separate categories: speech, debate, congress, service, district, and national. A total of 171 high school students earned the degree of Premier Distinction between September 1, 2011, and January l5, 2012, placing them among the top half of one percent of NFL student members.

Creekview High School Athletes Sign With Colleges 2012

On Feb. 1, eleven athletes from CHS signed on with their colleges. Students signing were:

· Miquan Robinson, Football, Kansas Wesleyan University

· Blake Simpson, Football, Southern Arkansas University

· Tony Truong, Football, University of Central Arkansas

· Melissa Gonzalez, Track, University of Texas-Austin

· Jasmine Greer, Softball, South Carolina State University

· Hunter Malcolm, Soccer, East Central University

· Taylor Raybon, Soccer, Northeastern State University

McCoy Elementary Makes Valentines for Veterans

On Jan. 31, McCoy Elementary students presented valentines to Balfour Beatty Construction, who will in turn, present the valentines to veterans at the Dallas VA Hospital.

Turner Wrestlers Place First at Keller Invitational

Congratulations to R. L. Turner wrestlers Christina Machado and Heiley Garcia who both placed first in the Keller Invitational.

Turner Girls' Soccer Team Takes Second at Hallsville Tournament

The Lady Lions soccer team had a great weekend at the Hallsville Ladycat Tournament winning a second place trophy. The girls' won three games in a row, outscoring their opponents 8-2.  This advanced the team to the final against Greenville. The girls' lost in double overtime to a very good Greenville team 3-2.

Turner JV Soccer Team Wins Allen Tournament

The Turner Boys' soccer team competed in the Allen High School tournament with 5A powers Allen, Marcus, and Jesuit. The JV2 team finished as runners-up in the JV2 division.  The JV1 team won the championship.

Reminder: February 8 is an Early Release Day

February 8 is an Early Release Day for staff development.  
The early release schedule for staff development is:

  • Elementary Schools release at 10:40 a.m.
  • High Schools release at 11:20 a.m.
  • Middle Schools release at 12 noon
  • Mary Grimes will release at 12:45 p.m.
  • Bea Salazar will release at 10:35 a.m.
  • Early College High School will not release students early on this day.

Turner Powerlifters Place at Mustang Invitational

The R. L. Turner Lions Powerlifting Team competed in the Creekview Powerlifting Meet.
Here are the results:
Boys':
  • David Portillo placed 5th in the 181 weight class with a total of 1020lbs. 
  • In the 148 weight class, Chris Zapata finished with a total of 720lbs. 
  • In the 165 weight class, Eric Rosales finished with a total of 780lbs. 
  • In the 220 weight class, Fernando Perez and Luis Triano finished with a total of 910lbs. 
  • In the 242 weight class, Jonathan Delvalle finished with a total of 825lbs. and David Fridae finished with a total of 820lbs. 
  • In the 275 weight class, Serafin Garcia finished with a total of 890lbs. 
Girls':
  • Vanessa De La Rosa placed 1st in her weight class (114) with a total of 475lbs. and also received the Best Lifter Award as well. 
  • Becky Rosales placed 1st in her weight class (165) with a total of 460lbs. 
Along with their metals and individual hardware that was awarded to them, the girls' also brought home a trophy for placing second in the overall team competition in their division.
