RHS Golfer Has Record Setting Varsity Debut

Ranchview golfer, Ava Castillo, had a record setting performance at the C-FB Invitational tournament at Indian Creek. Ava shot an 86 in her varsity debut. Her score of an 86 is the lowest recorded score ever by a women’s Ranchview Varsity golfer. The RHS ladies golf team finished in 3rd place out of 8 teams beating schools such as Denton High and Lake Highlands High.

Record Number of CHS Choir Students Place into Region Choirs

Creekview High School Choir students successfully auditioned and placed into the TMEA Region 24 Mixed and Treble choirs on Oct. 5, 2013.

The following students placed in the TMEA Region 24 Mixed Choir and will advance to the Pre-Area round of auditions in the Texas All-State Choir process:

Join Project Dress for Success

Creekview student, Patrick Lyons, in partnership with Metrocrest Social Services has began a non-profit initiative through Creekview High School called Project Dress for Success. The mission of this project is to gather as many interview-quality dress clothing donations as possible. After donations have been collected, they will be distributed to needy families throughout the DFW metroplex area through the Metrocrest Social Services (MSS).

These donations can help individuals secure jobs and move toward self-sufficiency, the mission of both the MSS and Project Dress for Succes. The donation drive runs from October 8-18, but donations will certainly still be accepted after these dates.

October 10 is “Dress for Success Day”, on which all Creekview students are encouraged to dress nicely to promote awareness of the project. Donations can be dropped off at the Creekview Student Services any time over the next 2 weeks.

- 180,095 lbs. of chicken (5 semi-truck trailers full)
- 131,931 lbs. of beef (3 semi-truck trailers full)
- 41,172 lbs. of mozzarella cheese (1 truckload)
- 36,834 lbs. of cheddar cheese (1 truckload)
- 32,471 lbs. of eggs (3/4 of a truckload)
- 24,630 lbs. of tomato sauce and ketchup (2/3 of a truckload)
- 187,392 gallons of milk (21 tanker trucks)

Student Nutrition Organizes an All-American Salute to School Lunch

National School Lunch Week Aims to Get Kids Excited About Healthy Choices

More than 32 million children eat school lunch everyday across the USA. The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students everyday. The program, which has been serving the nation’s children for over 60 years, requires school meals to meet federal, healthy nutrition standards by:

• Ensuring students are offered both fruits and vegetables every day of the week;
• Substantially increasing offerings of whole grain-rich foods;
• Offering only fat-free or low-fat milk varieties;
• Limiting calories based on the age of children being served; and
• Reducing amounts of saturated fat, trans fats and sodium.

To celebrate the healthy lunch choices in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week during the week of October 14-18, 2013. The theme, “School Lunch Across the USA”, will include events and activities that promote the benefits of healthy school lunches. It will also celebrate the flavors, ingredients, and culture of various regions of the USA. The campaign will put a spotlight on the healthy foods and positive changes that Carrollton-Farmers Branch schools have incorporated into their menus.

To get the students involved in celebrating the “School Lunch Across the USA” campaign, students will have the opportunity to win coupons for several of the schools’ newly introduced, healthy a la carte items throughout the week. At the end of the week, each elementary will also draw one student’s name who will win a Nook Simple Touch™, a prize that will also promote reading and education. Parents also have the opportunity to get involved in National School Lunch week by participating in the “Take Your Parents to Lunch Day” on Friday, October 18, 2013. On this day, parents will be able to come to their child’s school and enjoy the delicious meal options provided. Join us this coming week to celebrate the delicious and nutritious meals served daily to Carrollton-Farmers Branch students that help them to be successful in the school environment.

C-FB All Stars Honor Kacie Brekhus

C-FB ISD All Stars honored Kacie Brekhus by wearing pink to their first bowling practice of the year. October 3 marked the tenth anniversary of Kacie’s tragic accident. The athletes and coaches to paid special honor to Kacie whose family continues to encourage, love, and support our C-FB ISD All Stars Special Olympics team.

Reach for the Stars Reminder

Reach For The Stars is a half day workshop which introduces 7th and 8th grade girls to successful female role models in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math career fields. The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at Brookhaven College. Bus transportation will be provided from the middle school campuses. Registration is required. Students interested in attending need to contact their school counselor for event and registration details.
