On Oct. 11-23, photos from Early College High School students who are
members of the Photography Club will have their photos on display in a
gallery on the campus of Brookhaven College. The exhibit, Photo Essays: Experiments in Visual Literacy, grew
out of an assignment in Professor Nancy Barlow’s HIST/ENG 1301 Learning
Community class, in which students were to take a picture, describe and
explain it, exploring meanings and connections the photo evoked.
Professor Daniel Rodrigue gave a guest lecture on the composition of
photographs. Understanding the similarities in written and visual
composition led to Photo Essays.
There will be an informal gallery talk by a handful of the
participating students On Oct. 11 at 12:30 p.m. and the exhibit will
run through Tues., Oct. 23. The Basement Gallery’s exhibitions are free
and open to the public.
