Nov. 7-14, the District Improvement Council set up a challenge to
students and staff, to “Pluck A Plastic Bag from the Landfill Challenge”
– the goal was to pluck 50,000 bags to be properly recycled. With 12
campuses participating, students and staff were just shy of the goal,
successfully preventing 48,798 bags from going into the landfill.
Plastic bags can take 1000 years to decay in the landfill, and wild
animals are sometimes harmed by getting caught in the bags or consuming
them.
