C-FB ISD Council PTA awarded a grant of $20,000 to Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD for classroom book sets used in student reading and class discussions at the C-FB ISD School Board meeting on September 6. In addition to this grant, Council previously awarded $10,000 in grants to local students, $9,000 in grants to educators and over $14,000 to local PTA units. These funds were earned during the Council’s annual fundraiser, the Gently Used Book Sale.
Council President Sue Avery shared: “The Gently Used Book Sale is a huge community-wide collaboration supporting literacy. It is so appropriate that Book Sale funds be shared with the district’s educators and students to acquire new books. Thank you to the entire C-FB ISD PTA community for the tremendous effort that makes these awards possible.”
Superintendent Dr. Bobby Burns accepted the grant on behalf of the district. Dr. Burns remarked: “We appreciate the hard work of all our PTA volunteers and community members. As a district with students in six cities and 43 campuses we appreciate the tremendous effort that this grant represents. We know when we work together for student achievement, the entire community benefits. Thank you.”
Barbara Morgan, chair of the 2013 Gently Used Book Sale reminded all that it is time to put the book sale dates on the calendar. “Please join us February 28- March 3. And watch for the announcements from your local campus PTAs! They will be collecting gently used books, dvds, cds, games, computer software and more for the sale. Thousands of hours of volunteer time is devoted to making the sale a success. The book sale provides a very affordable way for families and teachers to obtain reading material for children and adults! There are so many stories about how this sale made it possible for children to learn their alphabet and for teachers to purchase well-priced sets of books for their classrooms.”
