Tour the Farmers Branch Christmas Lights with Janie Stark Elementary

Janie Stark Elementary will host a Farmers Branch Christmas light driving tour on Monday, December 17 and December 31 from 6:30-9:30pm. 

This is an open invitation to all C-FB ISD families and community members to come out and view the beautiful lights. The tour starts on Valley View at Farmers Branch City Hall (map) and concludes at the Farmers Branch Historical Park where Santa will be waiting. 

Admission is free but donations will be accepted to help purchase a shade structure for the Janie Stark Elementary playground.

Trojan Golfer Ranks 1st in the State

Newman Smith High School senior, Eji Kwon, is ranked 1st in the state by UIL 4A rankings.

These rankings include tournaments submitted and approved through December 12, 2012 and rank the state's schools and players by conference, region and district.

Thompson Elementary Parents Support Literacy Night

On November 29, Thompson Elementary hosted a Non-Fiction Literacy Night/Parent Night event. Families shared a complimentary hot dog meal while listening to a presentation on how to help their children with non-fiction reading at home. Following the presentation, students and parents worked through some literature and participated in non-fiction grade level activities together.

Safety is our #1 Priority

Our hearts are heavy today because of the tragedy in Connecticut. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families that were affected by this tragedy.

In C-FB ISD, safety is a priority. We have extensive crisis plans that we drill frequently. For example, yesterday at Creekview high school, we partnered with the Carrollton Police and Fire Departments to practice our safety plan.

Central Elementary Hosts Spoken Word Workshop to Spark Writing Creativity

On Dec. 5, Will Richey from JourneyManInk visited Central Elementary with musician Alejandro “JP” Perez. They spoke to 4th graders in the library about ‘feeling’ words and how they can use the power of words to express their feelings in writing and in speaking. Through song and word exercises, students talked about how different situations made them feel. The students were given time to write creative stories about an event they remembered, using techniques they learned through the workshop, and then volunteered to read their stories to the class.

Trojan Band Members Named to All Region Band

The Newman Smith High School Band had 14 members make chairs in the All-Region Bands. Two band members, Rachel Bennett and Eduardo Rocha, advance on to compete at the Area Band auditions in January for a chance to move on to perform with one of the All-State Bands in San Antonio in February.

In addition, six students were named to the All Region Jazz Band in October.

Trojan Debaters Qualify for State Championship Tournament

The Newman Smith High School debate team members Sam Winstel and Sarah Grace Withers followed their recent 1st place win at the South Garland Tournament by winning 1st place at the Creekview tournament in Public Forum Debate. In doing so they are now qualified for the Texas Forensic Association State Championship Tournament to be held at South Grand Prairie High School in March. Winstel is one of only three students in the history of NSHS Debate to qualify for the State Championship in each of his four years in high school. This is Withers’ fourth qualification in four years.
The team has compiled a 13-1 win/loss record over the last 2 weeks.

C-FB ISD Purchasing Division Receives Award of Merit

The Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) awarded the C-FB ISD Purchasing Division with the TASBO Award of Merit for Purchasing and Operations with Recognized Status. The award is provided to school districts and Education Service Centers statewide that are committed to following professional standards in the acquisition of goods and services. TASBO will officially recognize C-FB on Feb. 21, 2013 at the Second General Session of their 67th Annual Conference to be held in San Antonio.

“In determining our Award of Merit designees, TASBO reviewed various procedures and practices including: organization, policies & procedures, contract operations, staff training and certification, p-card systems (if applicable), warehousing, use of technology, communication and management of co-operative programs. Each application was reviewed by two independent reviewers,” stated Tom Canby, Director of Research and Technology at TASBO.

Mustangs Perform in Region 24 All-Region Orchestra Concert

On Dec. 9, members of the Creekview High School bands and orchestras performed in the Region 24 All-Region Orchestra concert.

C-FB ISD Principal Named Ambassador of the Year

C-FB ISD is proud of Barbara Bush Middle School Principal, Matt Warnock, for being named the Ambassador of the Year by Friends of Texas Public Schools.
