Creekview Students Have Art on Display at Dallas Museum of Art; Place at Competition

The Dallas Museum of Art in conjunction with The O’Donnell Foundation hosted the Young Masters Exhibition.  This year's exhibit had 651 pieces submitted from area high schools. Of those, 53 pieces were chosen and are now on display on the main concourse of the museum through April 8. Four Creekview students have art in this exhibition: Trang Tran, Bethany Williams, Silvia Zapata-Schleicher, and Rebekah Holmes. Silvia Zapata-Schleicher was awarded second place for her sculpture The Dimension of Cards. Trang Tran was awarded third place for her oil painting Escape.

Students Making A Difference – Promoting Safer, Smarter Driving through Project Ignition

Creekview High School was awarded $2,000 for a Student Led Teen Driver Safety Campaign.  Creekview was selected as one of 25 schools across the U.S. and Canada to receive a $2,000 Project Ignition grant for 2012.

Project Ignition, now in its 8th year, is a student-led teen driver safety program funded by State Farm® and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council. It was developed because car crashes are the No. 1 killer of youth. With a little help from Project Ignition, students at Creekview High School are working to change that devastating reality.

Please join us in congratulating Creekview High School at a check presentation to be held at the school during their Teen Driving Summit on Saturday, March 3 at 10 am. The free three hour summit will include informative and interactive sessions for teens on the consequences of risky driving behavior.

CHS Students Compete in Japanese Speech Contest, Qualify for State

On Feb. 11, students taking Japanese at Creekview High School participated the 15th Annual Dallas Japanese Speech Contest sponsored by the Dallas Japanese Association, the Japan-America Society DFW and the Japanese Teachers Association of Texas. They competed against 75 other students in the Dallas area. Five students from CHS placed, and two students, Kennedy Schleicher and Tristan Arizala qualified for State. The Texas State Speech Contest will be held in Houston on Mar. 10.

Mustang Debaters Head to State

On Mar. 1-3, the Creekview High School Speech team will head to the Texas Forensic Association State Tournament with 21 qualifications. In the past 3 years, CHS has had 10 State Finalists. During the 2011-2012 season, the Mustangs have taken 9 tournament championships.

The Mustangs will host a state preview exhibition at 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 in room B100 at Creekview.

Trojan Debater Heading to National Tournament

On Feb. 25, the Individual Speaking event portion of the of the National Qualifying Tournament was held at Creekview High School. Newman Smith Debate student Tanya Rajan qualified for the for the National Championship Tournament by being ranked first in all six rounds of the tournament. This is Tanya’s second year to qualify for Nationals in Extemporaneous Speaking.

This is the 13th time in 15 years that Newman Smith Debate has qualified for the National Championship Tournament. The National Tournament will be in Indianapolis in June.

The team also had three students place as alternates:

• Sarah Grace Withers

The Debate and Student Congress portion of the qualifying process will be held in April.

Creekview Boys' Track Places Fourth at Wylie Meet

The Creekview Varsity and JV Boys' both placed fourth at the Wylie Invitational Meet.

Turner Girls' Powerlifter Places at Regional Meet

RLT student Vanessa De La Rosa finished the season in sixth place with a total of 500 pounds at the Girl's Regional Powerlifting Meet. Vanessa ended up having the highest in deadlift in her weight class as well.

Turner Track and Field Places at Frisco Meet

The Turner JV Track and Field team placed at a recent meet in Frisco.  

• Fernando Orellano finished first in the 3200 and second in the 1600. 
• Lonnie Boldin was third in the triple jump.  
• Tristan Davis placed third in the high jump.

C-FB Students Place at State Wrestling Tournament
