Field Middle School Celebrates Veterans Day 2012

On Nov. 2, students and staff welcomed veterans and first responders to a Veterans Day Celebration to thank and honor them for their service. Dr. Andy Berning served as the guest speaker. Dr. Berning is the Chief Technology Officer for C-FB ISD as well as a veteran of the United States Air Force. Dr. Berning explained how things we use today, such as GPS devices and the Internet, were spawned by the technological achievements of the U.S. Military.

2012 CHS Grad Named Freshman of the Year by College Sports Madness All-Conference

Creekview High School graduate, Brittany Beddow, has been named Freshman of the Year by the Madness Western Athletic Conference (WAC) for her performance in women’s soccer. Beddow led her team at Louisiana Tech in points with goals and assists.

Trojan Singers Placed in TMEA Region 24 All-Region Choirs

Throughout the fall, choral students from Newman Smith High School have participated in a series of rigorous solo auditions sponsored by the Texas Music Educators’ Association. Nine NSHS singers placed into one of the TMEA Region 24 All-Region Choirs while competing against other students from C-FB ISD, Lewisville ISD, Frisco ISD, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, and Carroll ISD. The students performed in a gala concert Nov. 2-3 under the direction of guest choral conductors Dr. Rick Bjella from Texas Tech University and Ms. Denise Eaton from Sam Houston State University. Additionally, five students from the NSHS A Cappella Choir were selected to advance to the Pre-Area round of auditions on Nov. 8, with senior Clay Hensley advancing to the state audition on Jan. 12, 2013.

Turner Lions Tennis Players Receive Honors at All-District Competition

On Nov. 7, the R. L. Turner High School Tennis Team completed the season with the all-district competition. Player Lauren Kuhn was named “Girls’ #1 Singles Honorable Mention,” and mixed doubles players Troy Bonneau and Lauren Kuhn were named “Mixed Doubles #2 All District.”

On Nov. 7, students and staff welcomed veterans of the armed services to R. L. Turner High School as honored guests in their Veterans Day Celebration.

Farmers Branch Elementary Celebrates Veterans Day 2012

On Nov. 9, students at Farmers Branch Elementary visited the Farmers Branch Senior Center to join them in their Veterans Day Celebration. Students led the Pledge of Allegiance and handed out service pins to veterans serving in the 5 branches of the US Military.

Local NBC TV News Affiliate Features RLT in “Something Good” Segment

On Nov. 5, local news TV affiliate NBCDFW Channel 5 featured R. L. Turner High School in their “Something Good” segment.

RLT Student to be Showcased on Telemundo on Nov. 8

On Nov. 8, R. L. Turner student Desiree Avenivas will be honored as the “Estrella de la Prepa” (High School Star) for the week on Telemundo Dallas. Avenivas’ interview will air at the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. news programs which air on channel 39 and channel 10 on cable. Her interview will also be available on http://www.telemundodallas.com/ on Nov. 8.

CHS Choir Students Participate in TMEA Region 24 Choir

On Nov. 3, 2012, sixteen choir students from Creekview High School participated in the TMEA Region 24 Choir Clinic and Concert at First United Methodist Church in Grapevine, TX. The Mustangs placed into one of the  TMEA Region 24 choirs while competing against other students from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Lewisville ISD, Frisco ISD, Grapevine-Collyeville ISD, and Carroll ISD. The students performed over the weekend under the direction of guest choral conductors Dr. Rick Bjella from Texas Tech University and Ms. Denise Eaton from Sam Houston State University. Ten students from the CHS choir were selected to advance to the Pre-Area round of auditions in the Texas All-State Choir audition process.
