ECHS Students Featured in Photography Exhibit

On Oct. 11-23, photos from Early College High School students who are members of the Photography Club will have their photos on display in a gallery on the campus of Brookhaven College. The exhibit, Photo Essays: Experiments in Visual Literacy, grew out of an assignment in Professor Nancy Barlow’s HIST/ENG 1301 Learning Community class, in which students were to take a picture, describe and explain it, exploring meanings and connections the photo evoked. Professor Daniel Rodrigue gave a guest lecture on the composition of photographs.  Understanding  the similarities in written and visual composition led to Photo Essays.

There will be an informal gallery talk by a handful of the participating students On Oct. 11 at 12:30 p.m. and the exhibit will run through Tues., Oct. 23. The Basement Gallery’s exhibitions are free and open to the public.

CHS Dance Company Chosen to Perform

The Creekview High School Dance Company, Moving Ground, was selected to perform their new work entitled “Fragile State of Mind” at the Tennessee Dance Festival in the Celebrations Showcase on Sunday October 21, 2012. 

Senior choreographer, Ashton Overbeck, was selected to perform in the Student Choreography Project showcase.  She will receive feedback on her work, and will have the opportunity to have her work adjudicated against the other student pieces resulting in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places which come with scholarship funding.

Ranchview High School Teacher Chosen

Joy Henderson, World Geography teacher at Ranchview High School, was chosen by the Texas Education Association Student Assessment Division to serve on the Geography 2012 STAAR review committee to help in the selection of test questions for the May 2013 STAAR test.

C-FB ISD is honored to have a teacher on our staff that is recognized by the State of Texas as a leader in the subject of World Geography.

Furneaux Students “Fancy Up”

Students in Mr. Ware’s class at Furneaux Elementary have been working on “fancying up” their writing during the first four weeks of school. Students are learning to edit by checking for complete sentences, capitalization and punctuation, while learning to revise by adding details or clarifying ideas to ‘fancy up’ their stories.  To celebrate their hard work, the class dressed up in “fancy” attire and shared their work with their classmates, the principal, the librarian, and other teachers at Furneaux.

Mustang Speech Team Takes 2nd Place at Tournament

On Sep. 29, the Creekview Speech Team competed at the Newman Smith High School Speech tournament. Creekview took 2^nd place sweepstakes out of 34 schools competing.

RLT’s NJROTC Takes 2nd Place in Armed Drill Team Competition

On Sep. 22, the R. L. Turner NJROTC completed competition at the Denton ISD Drill Meet. RLT competed against 17 schools in Armed Regulation Drill, taking 2nd place.

AMAT Students Use Smart Technology to Access Multimedia

Students in Mr. Wheeler’s senior-level, video production class, use smart technology to access multimedia presentations to help with film projects they are working on. Mr. Wheeler has created online videos that his students can access to dive deeper into what has been discussed in class. Videos include discussions by Mr. Wheeler, video tutorials on film technique, online video Power Points and much, much more.

Three Outstanding C-FB Students Chosen as Leaders

C-FB ISD had three students out of 956 chosen to participate in Education in Action's 2012 Lone Star Leadership Academy programs.

The selection for the Lone Star Leadership Academy was based on each student’s demonstrated academic success and leadership ability, an educator recommendation, and involvement in school/community activities.
