Creekview Student Places At State UIL Academic Meet
Creekview's Mitchell Ferguson placed fourth in the state in the University Interscholastic League State Poetry Meet.
C-FB ISD Named Top 100 Community for Music Education for Fifth Time
Our district has been named a Top 100 Community for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation for the fifth time. We earned this distinction in 2004, 2007, 2008 2009 and now in 2011.
For 2011, 179 programs were honored, including 172 school districts and seven schools. 2011 marks the first year that individual schools received the designation. The school districts and schools named in 2011 represent 32 states.
There are 14 Texas school districts on the list. They are Arlington, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Denton, Fort Bend, Frenship, Garland, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Katy, McKinney, Midway, Northwest, Pasadena, Plano and Richardson.
This program recognizes districts across the United States for their commitment and support of music education in schools. According to the NAMM Foundation, the districts selected have an “unwavering commitment to provide music education for their students.”
Each school receiving the “Best Communities” designation scored in the 80th percentile or higher in the survey’s grading process. Participants in the survey answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and other relevant factors in their communities’ music education programs. The responses were verified with district officials and advisory organizations reviewed the data.

Ranchview Softball Play-off Game
Ranchview's softball team will have a one-game play-off against Anna High School in the area round of the UIL state softball play-offs. Game time is 6:30 p.m. Fri., May 6. The game will be at Frisco High School's Cotten Field, 6928 Maple, Frisco 75034.
Admission prices are $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.

Early Voting continues through next Tuesday (May 10) for the May 14, 2011 local elections. Dallas County Elections Department oversees the C-FB ISD School Board Election. Here are the dates and times of early voting:

RLT Soccer Players Named in Dallas Morning News
R. L. Turner Soccer players, Isai Mireles and Jacob Van Compernolle, were featured in The Dallas Morning News as First-Team All-Area for Soccer. It is the first time in RLT history that players made this selection.
C-FB Athletes Qualify for State Track and Field Meet
Following yesterday’s regional meets, C-FB will be well represented at the 3A and 4A state track and field meets to be held in Austin on Friday, May 13.
At the 4A level, Newman Smith girls finished third as a team with the following state qualifiers:
Courtney Okolo - 1st place in 400m dash (54.85) and 1st place in 800m run (2:17.14)
1600m Relay Team comprised of Kaila James, Mia James, Adriana DelaRue, Courtney Okolo, and alternate Morgan Williams) – 1st place (3:49.67)
Newman Smith boys had Brett Wyatt qualify – 1st place in shot put (57’2-1/2”)
Creekview girls finished eighth as a team with Melissa Gonzalez qualifying for state in the 300m hurdles – 2nd place (43.20)
Kasie Trigg is state alternate in the high jump – 3rd place (5’4”)
At the 3A level, Ranchview girls finished fourth as a team and they had four state qualifiers:
Antonisha Stewart – 1st place 100m hurdles (15.27)
Shanice Randall – 2nd place 100m hurdles (15.51)
Kendall Cox – 1st place 300m hurdles (46.09)
Michaela Williams – 2nd place triple jump (37:08)
Ranchview boys had one qualifier:
Chris Wimby – 2nd place 400m dash (49.75)
Armstrong Nworka is state alternate in the 100m dash – 3rd place (11.02)

Photos: Janie Stark Elementary Enjoys Kite Day
On Apr. 29, students at Janie Stark Elementary flew kites with classmates, teachers and parents. Older students helped younger students assemble and repair their kites, exemplifying one of the district's character values, cooperation.

On Apr. 22, WFAA reporter, Cynthia Izaguirre, visited with the students of Perry Middle School. She explained how she was inspired as a middle school student to become a TV reporter and that her efforts began in middle school to reach for that goal. She encouraged students to study and stick to their dreams.
