Carrollton’s Creekview High School Works to Change Peers’
Behaviors about Safe Driving
Students at Creekview High School in Carrollton are working to reduce
risky driving behaviors that lead to motor vehicle crashes, the number one
killer of teens. Earlier this year, Creekview High was awarded a $2,000
Project Ignition grant to implement their “Good Habits + Careful Driving = Arriving Alive” campaign. Project Ignition is a service-learning program sponsored by
State Farm® and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council®.
Creekview was selected through a competitive
process as one of this year’s top ten Project Ignition campaigns from across
the United States and Canada. As a top ten campaign winner, Creekview’s Project Ignition team will
now receive an additional $5,000 to support their participation in the National
Service-Learning Conference® in the spring of 2013 in Denver, CO. In addition, they are also eligible for a $2,500
grant to implement a yearlong project during the next school year.
Creekview High School principal, Joe LaPuma said, “Awareness
and sustained education regarding safe driving behaviors are such
important initiatives in today’s high school culture. I am grateful to
State Farm and the National Youth Leadership Council for funding this important
grant which will have a lasting impact on our campus.”
“Congratulations to Creekview High School for this
wonderful accomplishment,” said Michael Grimes, State Farm’s community liaison
in Dallas. “We are grateful for students like these who, through Project
Ignition, join us in promoting teen driver safety. Project Ignition gives
teens, working with their teachers, a relevant platform to change teen driving
behaviors in a meaningful and educational way.”
