CHS Baseball Advances to Play-offs

Creekview High School who finished the season strong to take third place in District 10-4A play, qualifying them for the state UIL baseball play-offs. Information on Creekview’s bi district series against Frisco Wakeland is below.

Ticket prices for each of the games will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students with passes accepted to include THSCA, TGCA, 10-4A and 9-4A administrator passes. No teacher passes or activity cards or punch cards allowed for these games.

NSHS Baseball Advances to Play-off Series

Congratulations to Newman Smith High School baseball who qualified for the state UIL baseball play-offs as the #4 seed from District 10-4A.  Bi-District play-off series information is shown below.  Ticket prices for the games will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students and passes to be accepted include THSCA, TGCA, 9-4A, and 10-4A.  No faculty passes or activity cards will be accepted for these games.

The First Round of the Playoffs is set. The Newman Smith Trojans (Seed #4 in District 10-4A) will be facing the Frisco Centennial Titans (Seed #1 in District 9-4A).

CHS Softball Advances to Area

Congratulations to Creekview softball on winning their bi-district series over 9-4A champion The Colony High School. Creekview won the first game on Friday night, lost the second at The Colony on Saturday, and came back to win the third game and capture the series later on Saturday at The Colony. Creekview will now take on Dallas Woodrow Wilson in the area round of the state UIL softball play-offs.

RLT Senior Named Gates Millennium Scholar

R. L. Turner High School senior, Rahim Karim, was selected as one of the 1,000 Gates Millennium Scholars for the Class of 2013. Karim was chosen from 54,000 applicants for his strong leadership, community service and academic achievements. This is a significant and prestigious accomplishment.

Furneaux Elementary Students Support Citizens of West

Three students (Katie, Catherine and Brianna) from Furneaux Elementary, set up a neighborhood lemonade stand over the weekend to raise money for the campus campaign "Bucks in a Bucket" to raise money for the citizens of West, Texas. The girls raised $31.37.

R. L. Turner Fine Arts Nominated for Awards

The R.L Turner Fine Arts team participated in the Schmidt and Jones Awards, a High School Musical Theater contest receiving 8 nominations (2 more than last year).   The winners receive scholarships and the winner of Best Actor and Actress receive a trip to New York this summer to participate in the national contest.

C-FB Waterpolo Season Results

The C-FB boys All-Star waterpolo team performed very well at the Regional Consolidated Championship in Denton. After a victory against MacArthur in the first round, Team C-FB met the Thunder consolidated club team in the semi-final and held their experienced players to just a 3-goal victory 12-9. Creekview’s Cole Solomon was solid in net, while Axel Dominguez and Travis Mayfield, also from Creekview, each found the net a few times as C-FB finished in third place. C-FB’s second boys team lost a heartbreaker 11-10 to Cedar Hill/Duncanville, with Newman Smith’s Adrien Lewis the top scorer with five goals. That squad later lost to Irving 8-1 to finish 7th. Meanwhile, the girls team played very strong against MacArthur, losing 7-5, then played well against Flower Mound in that 8-4 loss. Newman Smith’s Kaleigh Putter scored five goals and Ranchview’s Maddie Worrell was a strong defensive force at the point position. The girls finished 11th.

Cadets for a Cause

The R. L. Turner NJROTC had 40 cadets participate in a community service project to help the March of Dimes.  The cadets picked up all the signs and trash along the trail after the race and collected the unused water bottles.

C-FB ISD Principal Wins National Award for Communications

Barbara Bush Middle School Principal, Matt Warnock, is the recipient of the 2013 Blackboard Catalyst for Communications Strategy Award.

The Blackboard Connect Communications Strategy award honors those who use Blackboard Connect to support safety, security and campus engagement with effective communication strategies. Award recipients will have demonstrated results using their mass notification service and/or text messaging technology to respond to an emergency where they were able to keep the campus safe, improve the state of faculty-student communication, and/or impact student retention.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD created an ambassador training program to foster well-informed and highly engaged public school "champions" from various segments of the community - parents, local citizens, business leaders, real estate agents and staff. This unique, sustainable program has created a ripple effect of positive communication and a stronger sense of community across the district.

Carrollton Police accepting applications for the Junior Police

The Carrollton Police Department is hosting the Junior Police Academy during the upcoming summer months for those students currently in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade. All applicants must be in good standing at their school, as well as in the community. The Carrollton Police Department is providing this opportunity for a $5 charge per student.

The first Academy begins the week of June 10, with the last Academy session beginning on July 29. The Junior Police Academy is developed to expose middle school aged children to a wide range of police activities. Participants will learn about the Carrollton Police Department’s Motorcycle Unit, Crime Scene Investigations, SWAT Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Police K9 Unit and many other exciting areas within the department.

Applications may be picked up at the front desk of the Carrollton Police Department (2025 E. Jackson Road) or any Lewisville or Carrollton-Farmers Branch middle school. Applications must be returned to the Carrollton Police Department no later than May 3.
