C-FB ISD Announces Principal and Administrative Assignments

The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (C-FB ISD) Board of Trustees approved principal appointments at its regular meeting on June 6, 2013. The appointments will be for the 2013-2014 school year.
Elementary Schools

• Tom Landry Elementary – Stephanie Lopez. Ms. Lopez is currently the assistant principal at McLaughlin Strickland Elementary. Ms. Lopez has worked for 12 years in C-FB ISD as a teacher, summer school principal, and assistant principal. 

• Freeman Elementary – Robyn Callahan. Ms. Callahan is currently the assistant principal at Blair and Thompson Elementary Schools. Ms. Callahan has worked in C-FB ISD for 12 years as a teacher, instructional facilitator, summer school principal, and assistant principal. 

Middle School

• Perry Middle School – Asheley Brown. Mrs. Brown is currently the assistant principal at R. L. Turner High School. Ms. Brown has worked in C-FB ISD for nine years as a teacher, summer school instructional dean, summer school assistant principal, and assistant principal. 

Additionally, the following administrative reassignment will be in effect for the 2013-2014 school year.

• Dr. Janet Restivo will be taking the position as Director of After School Programs. Dr. Restivo is currently the principal at Freeman Elementary School. Dr. Restivo has worked in C-FB ISD for 25 years.

The 2011-2012 Annual Report was delayed in being published as the district waited for final achievement results from the state regarding STAAR and EOC. 

Thompson Elementary Art Students Earns Award

Thompson Elementary student, Dante Robinson took first place for "Best Use of Color" at the Chalk-This-Way Sidewalk Art Festival which took place on June 1, 2013 in Old Town Lewisville.

The day-long event invited professional chalk artists, art vendors, food trucks, and musicians, while also encouraging amateurs to tap into the creative spirit with a chalk art contest, scholarship contest, and children's gallery.

C-FB is Home to Golf Coach of the Year

Coach Kevin Kelson, Girls Golf Coach at Ranchview High School, has been named the 10-AAA Girls Golf Coach of the Year.

Teacher Uses Technology to Inspire Literacy Dialogue

We recently received a tweet to @CFBISD sharing about a dynamic teacher at Blalack Middle School who
is using Twitter to encourage students to talk about the books and stories that they are reading.  This is a great example of the stellar teaching and learning in C-FB ISD.

C-FB Teacher Name 2013 Texas History Teacher of the Year!

Steve Sonksen has been named the 2013 Texas History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, HISTORY®, and Preserve America.

After a lengthy application process, a panel of teachers, administrators, and academics from Texas chose Steve for his use of primary documents in the classroom, the level of inspiration that he provided to his students and his career achievements in education.

As the 2013 Texas History Teacher of the Year, Steve will receive a $1,000 award, a certificate of recognition, an archive of books and historical resources presented in his name to our school library, and an invitation to attend a 2014 Gilder Lehrman Teacher Seminar. Also, he will be recognized at a ceremony. Steve is a finalist for the $10,000 National History Teacher of the Year Award.

In addition, Kent will be named a Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School. Affiliate Schools receive invitations to regional forums with noted historians, access to extensive teacher resources such as lesson plans, toolkits, and primary source documents to use in the classroom, priority access to teacher seminars and traveling exhibitions, discounts to our online store, and free mailings of classroom materials.

McCoy Teacher is Finalist in Johnsonville’s “Best of US” Search

McCoy teacher, Lisa Runyon, has been nominated in Johnsonville Sausage company’s “Best of US” search. After taking submissions from around the country, Runyon has been selected as one of the top 20 finalists. The teacher who wins the most votes will receive a $20,000 grant from Johnsonville.
