Veterans/Military Service Project

Do you have friends, neighbors or relatives in Carrollton that have served or are serving, in the U.S. Armed Forces? Or maybe your career includes military service? Then join in and help spread the word about the City's new online Military Recognition Program. This project was started by members of VFW Post 8923 and the City of Carrollton Senior Center. The goal is to collect and share memories and photos from those who have answered the call to serve our country. In order to be included, individuals must have lived or worked in Carrollton at some point in time. All local veterans and active duty military personnel are invited to fill out the form below, and participate in this new online project.

NSHS Drumline Takes First at the Plano Drumline Competition


On Sep. 28, the Newman Smith Drumline competed at the Plano Drumline Competition at Clark Stadium in Plano, TX. They won first place for their division and also received the best bassline caption award.

Newman Smith has been competing in this contest annually since 2003 and this is the first year they have taken first place.

Thompson Elementary Enjoys Back to School Bash

Thompson Elementary’s Back to School Hot Dog Picnic, sponsored by Thompson’s Parent Teacher Association, was held on Sep. 27 in the school’s cafeteria. The annual event combines the year’s first Parent Teacher Association meeting with a fun back to school kick-off celebration. Faculty and families enjoyed hot dog dinner plates and live music by local band, Three Hand Roxy, who played family-friendly rock tunes. The porch was transformed into a sidewalk chalk art gallery, where students hopped along an epic hopscotch setup and showed off their artistic inclinations.

Troyann Dance Clinic Fundraiser a Success

The Newman Smith High School Troyanns Drill Team hosted a dance clinic on Saturday, September 21 where 50 young ladies, ages kindergarten through 8th grade, learned about dance, drill team, and team spirit. The participants then performed at the pre-game of the Smith football game on Friday, September 27. The clinic helped the Troyanns raise money for competition, spring show, and other events during the year.

Creekview Speech Team Finishes 1st

The Creekview Speech Team competed at the Newman Smith High School Speech tournament. Out of the 39 schools in attendance, Creekview placed 1st overall.

Hispanic Heritage Parade at Riverchase

Riverchase Elementary held a campus parade in celebration of Hispanic Heritage month.  Students who wanted to participate came to school in native dress. Classes lined the halls and watched students participate in the parade.

Thanks to a generous $2000 grant from Target, the Riverchase Pre-K students received brand new books for the library.

Newman Smith Excels at All Region Jazz Competition

On Sep. 21, jazz students at Newman Smith High School competed at the All Region Jazz Competition at Wakeland High School in Frisco. Five Smith students earned a place in one of the all region jazz bands:

Nelson Acosta, Sebastian Alvarez, Jonathan Hunda, Ryan La Lone and Cole Phillips

In addition, Nelson Acosta and Ryan La Lone advanced to area level taping for the opportunity to earn a spot in one of the coveted all state Jazz bands.

Monday, October 7th is a Staff Development/Student Holiday.  School resumes on Tuesday, October 8th.

As a way to show our appreciation for all you do – we are launching a new program called SchoolPons. It will replace the former program called “Applause Card”. This program is similar to “Groupon” in that you can find deals for local and national companies online – except the discounts are free for you – our C-FB Team Members. 

Here is the sign-up process for the School-Pons:

3. Choose a password that is at least 6 characters, and enter it in both Password Boxes.

Ambassador 2.0 Training Dates Announced

Ambassador 2.0 Training for Current Ambassadors begins in November.   Please save the dates November 12, January 28, February 25, March 25, and April 29 from 5:15-6:45 pm in the Administration Building Board Room.

Turner-Smith Alumni Charity Football Game

Mark your calendar for the Turner-Smith Alumni Charity Flag Football Game on November 16, 2013 at 6pm at Standridge Stadium.  

A group of Turner and Smith graduates (of the late 80’s) are putting together a flag football game to raise money for charity.  The Turner team will be donating to the Make a Wish Foundation and the Smith team is donating to the Juvenile Diabetes Found.  Each team is also donating at least $1000 in scholarship money back to the two high schools.  School board member John Mathews will announce the game.

Doug Chitwood (class of ’87) is organizing this event.

R. L. Turner Theater presents Neil Simon's Rumors October 10-12 in the R.L. Turner auditorium. Tickets are $8 at the door, show starts at 7pm.

Four wealthy couples gather for a dinner party celebrating their hosts tenth wedding anniversary. There are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the host has shot himself through the earlobe. Complications arise when all of the guests decide to hide everything that has happened from the police.

Lakeiah Cheatham is the Region Asst. Principal of the Year

Lakeiah Cheatham, Associate Principal of Creekview High School, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as a Region 10 Outstanding Associate Principal of the year. TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the twenty region Education Service Centers in the state. School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership.

Riverchase Elementary Hosts Blood Drive


RLT Will Host Acclaimed Author

Novelist, Matt de la Pena, will speak to Turner students Thursday morning, September 26 in the school auditorium. Matt is the author of four critically-acclaimed young adult novels—Ball Don’t Lie, Mexican WiteBoy, We Were Here and I will Save You—and the award-winning picture book A Nation’s Hope: The Story of Boxing Legend Joe Louis. In 2013, his fifth young adult novel, The Living, will be released, along with his first middle grade novel, Curse of the Ancients. Matt will sign books in the school library in the afternoon. His novels will be available for students to purchase for $10 (cash only).

The public is welcome. Please arrive early to get a guest badge from the front office. The author will speak at 9:15am and 10:10am. Book sales and signing will begin at 1:00 p.m.

C-FB ISD Awarded Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting

C-FB ISD received the Association of School Business Officials International’s (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award for having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. 

The district was recognized for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2012.

Annual FFA Fundraiser

The R. L Turner FFA is having a fall meat sale.  All orders must be accompanied with payment, checks should be payable to the R. L. Turner FFA and please include your drivers license number and phone number on the check.  The deadline for the meat sale is Oct. 15, 2013.  An FFA member will call you when the meat is ready to pick up at the school.  Orders will be available for the Thanksgiving holiday.

CHS Fall Dance Clinic


Creekview Chevals Drill Teams is offering a fall dance clinich to all students in K-12.  

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12th
12 – 4pm

Theme:
“OUT LIVE, OUT LAST, OUT DANCE”

Mark your calendar for the CHS Spring Dance clinic to be held at the Creekview High Gym on October 12th, from 12 pm until 4 pm. Grades K-12 are invited to attend. This is a fun day of small group dance instruction by the award winning Creekview Chevals Drill Team. Your daughter/son will learn several routines, technical dance movement, play games and have lots of fun.
  • A dance clinic T-shirt and drink refreshment will be provided. 
  • Each dance clinic attendee will receive a ticket for admission for Spring Show.
  • Performance for parents at 3:30 p.m. 
  • Registration is due Friday, October 6th to guarantee a t-shirt in the requested size.
