CHS Speech & Debate Program Recognized as Top 10% of Nation

The National Forensic League (NFL) has recognized the Creekview High School Speech and Debate program for earning more than 100 degrees last year, placing the program in the top 10% of NFL chapters nationwide. The recognition earns membership in the NFL’s prestigious 100 Club. NFL Executive Director, J. Scott Wunn, stated that, “Such a milestone is remarkable because it demonstrates outstanding commitment to teacher students essential life skills – including communication, research, listening, writing and organization.”

NSHS Students Selected For National Merit Recognition

Four students from Newman Smith High School; Amber Marco, Travis McDonald, Taelor Oppliger and Thinh Vuong, have been selected as National Merit Commended Scholars for 2013.

Save the Date!

Shakespeare’s most famous love story, Romeo and Juliet, will be brought to the R. L Turner Black Box Theater with a new ‘punk’ rock take on the classic play.

Romeo and Juliet productions are Oct. 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 at  7 p.m. and matinee performances on Oct. 13 and 21 @ 1 p.m. Performances take place in the BLACKBOX THEATER located in R. L. Turner High School. For more information, call 972-968-5400 or 214-755-8452.

Creekview Art Department Selling Ceramics and Jewelry

This Saturday, September 29, students working in the jewelry and ceramics department at Creekview High School will be selling their wares at Lewisville’s Western Days Festival in Lewisville, TX. Tickets are free, and can be obtained from the festival’s website at

R. L. Turner Principal, Georgeanne Warnock, has had her work published in a recently released book, Exemplary Science for Building in STEM Careers. The Mathematics Engineering Technology Science Academy (METSA) at RLT is a known as a model for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) related education programs. Warnock worked on the chapter entitled Why STEM? Why Now? The Challenge for U.S. Education to Promote STEM Careers, based on her graduate research in METSA and its success.

CHS Football - Army Strong Team of the Week



The Creekview High School football team has been named the Division 4A Army Strong Team of the Week by the United States Army. The U.S. Army has given the Mustangs this honor for demonstrating qualities including leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as part of a team. CHS will receive a plaque from the Army to signify the achievement.

C-FB Teacher Honored as Texas History Teacher of the Year

The 2012 Texas History Teacher of the Year award is sponsored by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, HISTORY®, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation on behalf of its Preserve America Program.

C-FB ISD Students Out-Perform State on College Entrance Exams


Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD (C-FB ISD) seniors taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the American College Test (ACT) in 2012 out-performed students taking the exam throughout the state.  Dr. Bobby Burns, superintendent of schools, said, “Our district is focused on high achievement for all students including college readiness. We will continue to prepare and equip our students with college readiness skills.”
The district combined score for 2012 on the SAT is 1476 compared to 1434 for the state. The overall composite score of 22.1 for C-FB ISD seniors taking the ACT in 2012 was higher than both the state (20.8) and the national (21.1) scores.

Creekview Asks Supporters to “Celebrate My Drive”


Creekview High School is participating in the “Celebrate My Drive” campaign sponsored by State Farm Mutual Insurance Company. Anyone ages 15-18 who supports the Mustangs can enter their name, e-mail address and birthdate on the website http://www.celebratemydrive.com to help CHS win a $100,000 grant while also winning their first car. The chance to vote for CHS ends on Sep. 15, 1 second before midnight.

The 2012 Creekview High School Band "Cow Patty Plop" tickets are now on sale.  Tickets are $2.00 each and can be purchased from any CHS band member. 

The band is holding is annual Cow Patty Plop, dinner and auction on September 22, 2012.  Everyone is invited to participate in this fun Creekview tradition. 

CHS Speech Team Dedicates Tournament Win to Kiet Nguyen

On Sep. 15, the Creekview High School Speech Team competed at the Grapevine High School Speech tournament. This tournament was comprised of more than a speech competition –  a team of individuals shared stories dedicated to and in loving memory of CHS student, Kiet Nguyen. Creekview won 1st place sweeps by 120 points, out of the 77 schools from 10 states in attendance. Out of over 300 students, Kevin Kehl won overall top performer, and Michael Ferguson won 2nd overall top speaker.

Fall 2012 Sunday Swim Clinic


C-FB ISD is offering swimming clinics on the following dates:

Sept. – 23, 30
Oct. – 7, 14, 21, 28
Nov. – 4, 11

Class will start at 2pm each Sunday. Placement is based on ability and age. Minimum age 6. All swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards non-stop. The cost is $85 for eight sessions. Payment is made at registration. A limited number will be accepted on a first come basis. Any questions call (972) 968-5667.

Red Ribbon Breakfast

The Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 23rd annual Red Ribbon Breakfast on Oct. 19 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dallas, near The Galleria.
7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Guest speaker will be Neal Jeffrey, former collegiate and professional quarterback and Associate Pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church.

R. L. Turner NJROTC Student Named Top Cadet *salute*

This year R L Turner’s NJROTC program submitted Cadet Luis Castillo as the Top Cadet. Cadet Luis Castillo was selected as one of the ten cadets in the DFW area. He attended both, the Youth Leadership Conference in Killeen, TX and The North Texas Leadership Academy in Fort Worth, TX. He is also a member of the Math, Engineering, Technology, and Science, Academy (M.E.T.S.A.) at R. L. Turner.

PTA Awards C-FB ISD $20,000 Grant

C-FB ISD Council PTA awarded a grant of $20,000 to Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD for classroom book sets used in student reading and class discussions at the C-FB ISD School Board meeting on September 6. In addition to this grant, Council previously awarded $10,000 in grants to local students, $9,000 in grants to educators and over $14,000 to local PTA units. These funds were earned during the Council’s annual fundraiser, the Gently Used Book Sale.

Help Creekview High School Win $100,000

As part of Celebrate My Drive, State Farm is giving away 14 $100,000 grants to high schools across the U.S. and Canada. Helping Creekview win is easy. Log onto celebratemydrive.com each day starting TODAY through September 15. Anyone over the age of 14 can vote once a day. You will be asked to put your date of birth, and email address, select USA, Texas, Carrollton, and then cast your vote for Creekview. Additionally, students between the ages of 14 -18, can come to the Celebrate My Drive Event at Stone Briar Mall on September 15 and get an additional vote. During the event at Stone Briar Mall, CHS Leadership students will be doing a presentation at 4 pm that will include a Flash Mob Dance. At the event, there will be prizes and tons of fun interactive activities. In addition to the $100,000 grant given to the school that receives the most votes, one lucky student, between the ages of 15-18 will be awarded a brand new car. In order to be in the drawing for the car, you must go to Stone Briar to register.

Turner Theatre Seeks Sponsors

 R. L. Turner High School has over 200 students actively involved in the Theatre program, performing plays and award-winning musicals throughout the year.

Due to budget constraints, the Theatre program is working with a significantly smaller budget than in prior years and is reaching out to the community for individual and corporate sponsors.


Up to 1,000 patrons are present per show, providing a large audience for sponsors who wish to advertise. Sponsors also receive 2 for 1 deals on tickets to shows with their tax-deductible sponsorship.

C-FB ISD Alumni Traded to Orioles

Creekview High School gradute, Taylor Hill Teagarden is a Major League Baseball catcher for the Baltimore Orioles. Teagarden debuted and played for the Texas Rangers from 2008 to 2011 when he was traded to the Orioles.

Five RLT Seniors Named National Hispanic Recognition Scholars

R. L. Turner High School seniors Brenda Cecena, Jorge Chacon, Kevin Garcia, Joseph Peña, and Victor Ron have been named National Hispanic Recognition Scholars for 2012. The National hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) was founded in 1983 by the College Board’s National Merit Scholarship Corporation. NHRP Scholars must meet the minimum PSAT/NMSQT cutoff score for the state and achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) requirement. The NHRP honors approximately 5,000 of the highest scoring students from the approximately 235,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT.

C-FB Offers Fall Spanish Classes for Employees, Parents and Community Members

For the fall of 2012, Spanish I and Spanish II Advanced classes will be held at the ESDC (formerly known as the CLC), on Wednesdays (Spanish I) and Thursdays (Spanish II Advanced) 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Spanish I 
Come and learn to communicate at a basic level in Spanish! You’ll learn vocabulary, basic grammatical concepts and conversation. There will be homework.

Be sure to read the Family Math letters that come home at the beginning of each Unit of Study to learn more about the concepts and skills being taught in mathematics. If you need additional help with homework, please email your child’s teacher and ask for the ‘class access code’ and information on how to register with Pearson SuccessNet. This will allow you to have an online copy of the Student Handbook, which is an excellent resource to help guide you through examples of math problems very similar to the homework assignments.
